About Our Tungsten Rings

Our Tungsten rings are composed of a metal alloy. The alloy allows for maximum hardness and rigidity without sacrificing tensile strength. There are some amounts of Nickel used as binding agents. It is non-reactive to the skin and hypoallergenic.
  • Tungsten 45-49%
  • Titanium 18-22%
  • Nickel 18-22%
  • Molybdenum 5-7%
  • Iron 1-2%
  • Trace elements less than <1%

Cobalt is NOT used.

Each tungsten ring is cut and polished with diamond tools. Tungsten rings are not sizable by ordinary jewelers' tools -- the metal is too hard.

Tungsten Rings and Watches

Q. How can I ensure the correct ring size?
A. We recommend that you order a 1/2 size SMALLER than your measured ring size. Our Tungsten rings run a 1/2 size big. Avoid the frustration of exchanges. Before placing your order please confirm the proper finger size. All of our tungsten carbide rings are comfort fit. This means extra metal is used to make the inside of the band slightly domed, resulting in a very comfortable fit. The center part fits closer to the finger than the outer edges. A comfort fit ring will fit looser on the finger because it is not flat on the inside but rather rounded. Therefore when you are getting sized please use the narrow finger sizer which is 3 mm wide, (as opposed to the wider one of 6.5 mm.) This will provide an accurate finger size. Do not use the wider finger sizer as your ring will fit too loosely.

Q. Which ring widths are available?
A. Our tungsten rings are available in 6mm and 8mm.

mm decimal inches fractional inches
6.0 0.24 3.78/16
7.0 0.28 4.41/16
8.0 0.31 5.04/16
9.0 0.35 5.67/16

Q. Can a tungsten ring be sized?
A. Tungsten rings CANNOT be sized like a gold, silver or platinum ring. The metal is too hard for conventional jewelers' tools.

Q. Do you engrave tungsten rings?
A. YES, We offer laser engraving. The fee is $75.00 plus $15.00 for return shipping. Engrave up to 25 characters. Font choices are Arial, Arial Black or Arial Narrow. Please note that engraved rings are non-returnable, non-refundable. For this reason, we recommend you purchase the ring first to ensure proper fit and satisfaction, then you may send it to us for engraving. Because tungsten is one of the world's hardest metals, special machinery is required to engrave on it. Not only must the machine be able to penetrate the metal, but it must do it in a way that isn't so deep as to harm the integrity of the ring. Please note: because engraving is permanent and creates a heirloom, we cannot accept returns on engraved items.

Q. Are tungsten rings comfortable?
A. YES. Your tungsten ring is made using our full inside round comfort fit feature. This makes the ring more comfortable to wear.

Q. When will I receive my order?
A. Please allow 24-48 hours for all non inlayed rings to be shipped. Most rings ordered before 3PM EST will be shipped the same day. Then add 3-5 business days for UPS Ground, 2 days for 2nd-day air, and 1 day for next-day delivery.

Q. What are the warranty terms?
A. Your tungsten ring is guaranteed for life. If a ring should ever fail structually, scratch or show any kinds of wear, please contact us. We will inspect the ring for manufacturing defects.
  • If we determine that the ring has a defect, it will be replaced at no charge. Shipping and handling are additional.
  • If we determine that the ring is not defective, it will be replaced for a small deductible. The deductible varies by style. Please contact Joy Jewelers for the exact deductible for your style.
Please note: if you chose an inlay, the gold and platinum will scratch as regular gold and platinum does.

The warranty is VOIDED if the tungsten ring is engraved, altered or changed in any way by a third party jeweler or service center.

Q. My tungsten ring doesn't fit me anymore. Can I get an exchange?
A. Every tungsten ring customer is allowed UNLIMITED size exchanges. If you gain or lose weight you can send in your tungsten ring for the correct size. Must be original purchaser. A tungsten ring may be exchanged as many times as needed. Prices are as follows:

Non-inlayed tungsten: shipping and handling $25
Tungsten carbide with sterling silver: $40
Tungsten carbide with 18k gold: $100
Tungsten carbide with shakudo, mokume, or platinum inlay: $125

Exclusions: Because tungsten carbide is a ceramic metal, the warranty is voided if the ring is altered in any way. Engraving, soldering, sizing, polishing, ultra sonic cleaning, steaming or other signs of abuse will void the warranty.

Q. How should I clean and care for my tungsten ring?
A. Your tungsten ring requires essentially no care. If your ring is 100% tungsten high polished your ring will retain its luster and polish forever. A soft cloth will eliminate fingerprints and smudges. If your ring has a finish you may get some micro scratches. The tungsten didn't scratch: rather, the metal it rubbed against embedded itself in your ring. In most cases a tooth brush and mild detergent will remove the foreign material.

Avoid cleaning with harsh chemicals and DO NOT LEAVE IN THE ULTRASONIC CLEANING MACHINE FOR MORE THAN A MINUTE.

All tungsten rings with sterling silver inlays will tarnish and need to be polished up over time. A simple polishing cloth, cheese cloth or 3M abrasive sponge will make it look like new.

Q. What if a tungsten or tungsten carbide ring gets stuck on your finger, can it be safely removed if necessary?
A. Yes, first try removing by soaking your hand in a bowl of ice water for a minute or two, then apply a heavy lubricant like petroleum jelly on the finger between the ring and the knuckle, hold the ring with a cloth and gently pull with a rocking motion. (Note: This will work on any metal, including gold or platinum).

About Tungsten

While relatively new to fine jewelry, tungsten was discovered more than two hundred years ago. Here is more information about tungsten and tungsten carbide. Tungsten is an essential part of modern life, used in industry and homes around the world.

Description: Tungsten is a naturally occurring element. It occurs in rocks and minerals combined with other chemicals, but never as a pure metal. Elemental tungsten is a white to steel gray metal (depending on the purity) that can be used in pure form or mixed with other metals to make alloys. Pure tungsten is a shiny white metal and, in its purest form, is quite malleable and can easily be processed. Usually, however, it contains small amounts of carbon and oxygen, which give tungsten metal its considerable hardness.
